🎙 A Meaningful Conversation About Bilingual Education with Jackie al Punto

We recently had the pleasure of joining Jackie al Punto for a heartfelt Facebook Live conversation about something very close to our hearts—raising bilingual children, preserving our cultural heritage, and empowering families through creativity, literacy, and social-emotional learning.

What began as an interview quickly became a meaningful conversation about purpose, identity, and the incredible role parents and educators play in shaping the next generation.

During our discussion, we shared the story behind Ahvian The Creative™—how one experience as a mother inspired a mission that continues to impact families, classrooms, and communities.

When our founder, Mahiette Tarrago, saw her young son begin to question whether speaking Spanish was something he should hide, she realized many bilingual children were receiving the message that a part of who they are didn’t belong. Instead of accepting that reality, she decided to create resources that would celebrate language, culture, creativity, and emotional growth.

That experience became the foundation of Ahvian The Creative™—an educational initiative created to help children embrace bilingualism with pride while learning through stories, creativity, play, and meaningful social-emotional experiences.

Throughout the interview, we explored why bilingual education is about much more than learning two languages. It’s about preserving identity, strengthening family connections, building confidence, and giving children the freedom to celebrate every part of who they are.

We also discussed the importance of nurturing emotional intelligence alongside academic growth. Every bilingual resource is intentionally designed to encourage curiosity, creativity, empathy, communication, and joyful learning for children, families, and educators alike.

At the heart of our conversation was one simple belief: when children are encouraged to embrace both their language and their culture, they grow into more confident, compassionate, and connected individuals.

That has always been—and continues to be—the mission of Bilingual Series:
To empower children, families, and educators through creativity, bilingual literacy, and social-emotional learning while celebrating every child’s language, culture,
imagination, and unique voice.

We are deeply grateful to Jackie Álvarez for creating a platform where conversations like these can inspire families, educators, and communities. We hope this interview encourages you to continue celebrating bilingualism and to remember that every child’s voice deserves to be heard, valued, and celebrated.

💫 A Personal Reflection

This conversation reminded me why I created Ahvian The Creative™. As a Cuban-American mother and educator, I believe every child should feel proud of their language, culture, and identity. My hope is that our conversation inspires families and educators to embrace bilingualism, nurture creativity, and remind every child that their voice truly matters.

Thank you to Jackie Álvarez for providing a platform to share this mission. Together, we can continue empowering the next generation—one story, one child, and one family at a time.

Impulsar a madres, padres, familias y escuelas a mantener sus dos idiomas y abrir puertas a más idiomas — this is a mission we proudly share.
